Why Mental Health First Aid
INNOVATIVE AND WORLD LEADING
Mental Health First Aid is a global innovative program that was inspired by the successful physical first aid model. Developed in Australia in 2000, it is regularly updated to ensure that is drawing upon the latest evidence base. The program is available in over 25 countries.
EVIDENCE-BASED
MHFA courses are based on the expert consensus, of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals, on what support a mental health first aider should provide. MHFA Australia has worked in partnership with researchers at the University of Melbourne, to develop guidelines for action that cover a number of mental health problems and crises.
INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED
The MHFA Program has been recognised with a number of Australian and international awards, including the TheMHS Medal. It has been recognised in the UK as an example of radical efficiency and has been listed in the USA by SAMSHA on their National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
Take The Guess Work Out Of Responding To Mental Health Emergencies
What Is the Mental Health First Aid Course?
The 12-hour Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis.
1 in 5 working Australians has a mental health problem, and our staff feel poorly equipped to handle a potential mental health crisis in their team.
Mental health emergencies can strike anybody at anytime and although more people are recognising the issue and trying to do the right thing, without proper training, they are still left feeling helpless when a crisis strikes.
“The course was so timely; thanks to the training I have been able to provide our Managers and Human Resources team with guidance that has been of value to the workers.”
